Community Access

Simple, dependable local transportation designed with seniors in mind.

Medical appointment? Pharmacy? Grocery store? Church? Hair appointment? Visiting family? If it's within 5 miles of Bon Secours Harbour View Medical Center, we're there.

≤ 5 miles per leg · $20 each way
ZoneMilesOne-way rate
1 · Local 0–15 mi $40
2 · Regional 16–25 mi $55
3 · Extended 26–35 mi $70

Why Hampton Roads Families Are Choosing Us Early

We're a new company, which means we don't have a wall of reviews yet — but it also means every single rider gets our full attention, not a call-center script.

“

Steady as the Tide.
On Time, Always.

“We started Coastal Care because we watched people we love struggle to get to appointments they couldn't afford to miss. As a new, locally owned company, every ride is personal to us — there's no call center between you and the person who answers the phone.”
— Winston C. McLeod Jr., Founder, Coastal Care Transport

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Coastal Care Transport?

Coastal Care Transport is a locally owned, private-pay non-emergency medical transportation company based in Suffolk, Virginia. We provide door-to-door rides for ambulatory passengers heading to medical appointments, dialysis, therapy, recurring care, and other scheduled destinations throughout Suffolk and the surrounding Hampton Roads area.

Do I need Medicaid to book a ride?

No. Coastal Care Transport is a private-pay provider, so no Medicaid or insurance is required to ride with us. In Virginia, Medicaid NEMT benefits are coordinated through your managed care plan or broker (such as Modivcare) — we don't bill Medicaid directly at this time.

What types of transportation do you provide?

Non-emergency medical transportation for ambulatory passengers, including trips to medical appointments, dialysis, therapy, recurring care, and other approved destinations.

How does membership pricing work?

Instead of paying per ride, you pay one flat monthly rate for a set number of included trips — ideal for dialysis, therapy, or any recurring appointment schedule. Cancel anytime with 30 days' notice.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Suffolk, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Franklin, and Isle of Wight.

How much does a ride cost?

Rates are set by zone rather than a meter. Short local trips within 5 miles qualify for our $20 Community Access fare; standard local trips start at $40. See our full pricing page for every zone and any ancillary fees.

How far in advance do I need to book a ride?

We recommend booking 24–48 hours ahead whenever possible, especially for dialysis, chemotherapy, or early-morning appointments. Same-day requests can sometimes be accommodated for an additional fee, based on availability.

What information do I need to schedule a ride?

Your name, phone number, pickup and drop-off addresses, appointment date and time, and whether you'll need a return trip.

Can I book a round-trip ride?

Yes. Let us know your expected pickup time for the return trip when you book, and we'll arrange transportation home as well.

Is NEMT ever covered by insurance or Medicaid?

In some cases, yes — through your Medicaid managed care plan or broker, or certain private insurance plans, depending on medical necessity and prior authorization. Coastal Care Transport is currently a private-pay provider and does not bill insurance or Medicaid directly, so you would need to arrange that coverage through your plan separately.

What should I have ready before my ride arrives?

Have your medications, ID, and appointment details on hand, and make sure any mobility devices (cane, walker) are ready to go. Wearing comfortable clothing helps make boarding and the ride itself easier.

Steady as the tide. On time, always. Ready when you are.
